Virgin Media O2 - comment

If BT acquires TalkTalk it would solidify its leading position in the consumer broadband market. VMED will still be interested in acquiring the customers, the business has £1.2bn in debt, and in 2024, Macquarie valued the equity at £1.1bn. TalkTalk lost 400k broadband customers (11% of 3.6m) in 2024, so the current price will be much lower. Virgin Media O2 (VMED) is also a potential buyer for TalkTalk, which mainly uses BT’s Openreach network for broadband services. The VMED fixed network covers around 51% of the UK population, so if VMED were to purchase TalkTalk, it would need to continue to use BT’s network, where it has no presence.
