The issue looks to be inventory-driven rather than an IT failure, which will relieve Ocado management. Christmas is as busy as it gets for online grocery, and potential customers of Ocado’s logistical services will be familiar with the problems of ensuring enough of the stock is available. We are not saying that the headline isn’t terrible and those impacted will be furious, but 100’s of orders hit amongst 200,000 sent out in the busiest week of the year is not a corporate catastrophe in any way.
