Jaguar LandRover - comment

Press reports from the BBC and others show that Tata Group are increasingly likely to pick the UK for their flagship electric car battery factory. The Chair of Tata Group, Natarajan Chandrasekaran is due to to meet the Prime Minister next week which is expected to lead to confirmation Somerset will be chosen as the site of the factory. Both the Spanish and UK governments have been vying to be the location for the gigafactory, and the related boost to employment. This is comparable to the $9.7bn in subsidies VW received from the Canadian government to build its North American battery plant in Canada.

Note: the investment will be from Tata Group, not JLR, and it is likely to be in partnership with Envision, the Chinese battery supplier which also operates the Nissan plant in Sunderland.
