Emeis - comment
RTÉ, Ireland’s national broadcaster, is set to air a documentary this evening exposing multiple care deficiencies and instances of neglect involving vulnerable elderly residents at two nursing homes operated by Emeis Ireland. The investigation was initiated following concerns raised by several whistleblowers. As part of the programme, two RTÉ journalists secured positions as healthcare assistants at the facilities through undercover applications.
While the documentary appears to focus primarily on systemic issues, namely, inadequate staffing levels and insufficient medical equipment/supplies, rather than direct abuse, the findings nonetheless raise serious concerns for both Emeis and the broader healthcare sector. Current revenue levels appear insufficient to support the necessary staffing and resources required to ensure appropriate standards of care.
