Boparan - comment
The CMA (not the shipping giant, but the Competition and Market Authority) has authorised Ranjit Boparan’s takeover of Banham Poultry. The acquisition was originally challenged in November 2021 and subject to an internal enquiry. This is Banham’s second corporate rescue in two years following two fires the death to pest control subcontractors and a chemical spill. With turnover of £145m and staff of over 1000 Banham represents further scale to Boparan.
That it is so far only been taken over by its founder should be a good thing. The business has been making losses and may require a turnaround before the company - in its current state - is able to integrate it. It may also be the subject of a future equity contribution from Ranjit Boparan, should a deal be required.
