AMS Osram - comment
AMS Osram has successfully concluded its long-standing legal dispute with Renesas Electronics, securing a settlement of $51.7 million. Although the original agreement, reached in 2015, was for over $58 million, several court decisions were later overturned, resulting in the adjusted amount.
The case involved allegations of trade secret misappropriation, breach of contract, and patent infringement. The matter was resolved following an appeals hearing last month.
The litigation originated from a dispute between Texas Advanced Optoelectronic Solutions (TAOS) and Intersil, which began after merger discussions between the two companies broke down. During those talks, proprietary technology was exchanged under a confidentiality agreement, with the understanding that all shared information would be destroyed if the negotiations did not proceed.
AMS Osram acquired TAOS in 2011, while Intersil was acquired by Renesas Electronics in 2017.
